urgent-milk-recall-due-to-severe-llness-causing-bacteria

An urgent product recall has been announced today by the Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) over concerns that a popular milk product might be contaminated with E.coli bacteria. The warning was issued for a specific batch of Loughpark Farm Raw Milk, with the potential presence of Shiga toxin-producing E. coli (STEC) being the main reason for the recall. STEC, a strain of E. coli that produces a potent toxin, can lead to severe illness if consumed.

According to the Irish Mirror, symptoms of STEC contamination include abdominal cramps and diarrhoea, which may sometimes be bloody. While most E. coli bacteria are harmless and exist in the intestines of healthy individuals, STEC poses a significant health risk. In severe cases, particularly in children under five years old and the elderly, the infection can lead to a complication known as haemolytic uraemic syndrome (HUS), which can result in the destruction of red blood cells and kidney failure. The incubation period for the onset of symptoms typically ranges from three to four days but can vary between one and eight days.

Customers who have purchased the affected batch of Loughpark Farm Raw Milk, identified by the batch code 200525 and expiry date of 26.05.2025, are advised to refrain from consuming it. Retailers have been instructed to remove the affected batch from sale and display notices at all points of sale to inform customers about the safety risk. If individuals exhibit symptoms of E.coli infection, they are urged to avoid public places such as work or nursery for at least 48 hours to prevent the spread of the bacteria. Those who have bought the product are encouraged to return it to the place of purchase or dispose of it along with any items made from it.

Not really sure why this matters, but it’s crucial to take these precautions seriously to prevent further health complications. Remember, safety first, folks!
