Dublin Airport’s Automated Border Control eGates Set for Upgrade to Enhance Passenger Experience
Dublin Airport is gearing up for an exciting upgrade to its Automated Border Control eGates, which are set to enhance the overall passenger experience. The announcement of the upgrade comes from Minister for Justice Helen McEntee, who revealed a new contract for the eGates that were first introduced at Dublin Airport back in December 2017.
The upgrade will bring significant improvements to the eGates, which currently cater to passengers aged over 18 from the EU/EEA, Switzerland, and the UK. These automated systems play a crucial role in processing passengers efficiently, with eGates currently handling around 25 per cent of daily arrivals at Dublin Airport.
In the previous year alone, over four million passengers arriving at Dublin Airport were processed through the eGates operated by the Department’s Border Management Unit. Minister McEntee emphasized the importance of modernizing immigration processes and providing more efficient services to customers through the utilization of advanced technology like the Automated Border Control eGates.
Enhancing Security and Efficiency
Minister McEntee highlighted the significance of securing the new contract for the upgrade, stating that it will enable the continued swift processing of Irish, EU, and other eligible travelers while ensuring stringent security checks on passengers and their documents. The upgrade will further solidify Dublin Airport’s commitment to delivering a secure, effective, and modern Immigration Service.
Currently, Dublin Airport boasts 10 eGates in each of Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 arrivals, along with an additional five eGates in the passenger Transfers Facility. These eGates play a crucial role in expediting the immigration process for travelers, reducing wait times, and enhancing overall operational efficiency.
Future Outlook
Looking ahead, the upgrade of Dublin Airport’s Automated Border Control eGates signals a continued focus on innovation and customer service excellence. By investing in cutting-edge technology and modernizing immigration processes, Dublin Airport is poised to further enhance the overall passenger experience and streamline operations.
As Dublin Airport continues to evolve and adapt to the changing landscape of air travel, the upgrade of the eGates represents a strategic investment in ensuring the seamless flow of passengers through the immigration process. With a strong emphasis on security, efficiency, and customer satisfaction, the upgrade of the Automated Border Control eGates is set to elevate Dublin Airport’s status as a leading international hub.
