A woman tragically passed away after getting hit by a tractor while riding her bike in Co Clare over the weekend. The heartbreaking incident took place on the L3180 road at Toonagh, Tulla around 12.45pm on Saturday. An Garda Síochána shared in a statement that the cyclist, a woman in her 70s, was sadly declared deceased at the scene. The woman’s body was then moved to the mortuary at University Hospital Limerick, where a postmortem will be conducted in the near future, as per the authorities.

The road had to be shut down for some time on Saturday to allow Garda forensic collision investigators to carry out a technical examination. An Garda Síochána reached out to anyone who witnessed the incident or might have camera footage from the area at that time to reach out to Ennis Garda station on (065) 684 8100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any garda station for assistance. This unfortunate incident adds to the total number of fatalities on the State’s roads this year, bringing it up to 63, with five of them involving pedal cyclists. In a separate incident, authorities in Enniscorthy, Co Wexford are seeking witnesses following a collision between a car and a pedestrian on Saturday at Curraghgraigue on the R702 at 3pm. A woman in her 40s was taken to Wexford General Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.
