schoolgirl-scalded-on-ryanair-flight-from-lourdes-settles-for-30000

Sienna Darcy, a young girl who got scalded on a Ryanair flight from Lourdes, has agreed to a €30,000 settlement offer from the airline along with some hefty legal costs. Back in July 12th, 2019, when Sienna was just seven years old, she had a traumatic experience when a super hot pasta meal, complete with oil and sauce, spilled onto her hand during a flight to Dublin. The incident occurred when the cabin crew placed the meal on what they claimed was a wobbly extendable seat tray, as revealed in the Circuit Civil Court.

Despite the immediate treatment Sienna received from Ryanair staff, including cold water, cooling gel, and Calpol, the poor girl had to be taken by ambulance to Temple Street Children’s Hospital upon landing. The gruesome burns on her left hand were captured in photographs presented as evidence in court by Darach MacNamara, Sienna’s legal representative. Sienna’s mother, Aideen Darcy, described the ordeal as truly horrific in her written testimony, recounting how her daughter screamed in agony and cried throughout the flight. Although Sienna’s physical wounds healed well without scarring or loss of function, she did suffer psychological trauma from the incident, requiring extensive therapy and counseling.

Despite the trauma Sienna endured, Judge Christopher Callan expressed hope that she wouldn’t be deterred from traveling in the future. He emphasized the importance of continuing to explore the world and experience new things. Ultimately, the court approved the settlement offer of €30,000, which also included special damages totaling €2,610. Sienna’s journey to justice may have been long and challenging, but at least the resolution brings some closure to this difficult chapter in her life.
