Gardai in Dublin have issued a renewed appeal for information on the 25th anniversary of the murder of teenager Raonaid Murray. The 17-year-old was tragically killed on the 4th of September 1999, a case that has remained unsolved for a quarter of a century. Raonaid, who worked at a clothes shop called Sally West in Dun Laoghaire Shopping Centre, left work around 9pm on the 3rd of September and went to Scott’s Public House with a friend. She had plans to go to a nightclub later that night.

Raonaid was last seen alive at around 11:20pm on the 3rd of September when she left Scott’s to go home and change before heading to the nightclub. However, she never made it home that night. Her body was discovered at Silchester Crescent in Glenageary at 12:33am on the 4th of September, less than 500 yards from her residence. The investigation into her murder has been ongoing, with Detective Superintendent Brian O’Keeffe emphasizing the importance of anyone with information coming forward.

“In over 4500 witness statements to-date, there is still no motive identified for her murder,” a Garda spokesman stated. “If anyone has any information that could assist in identifying a motive for the murder of Raonaid, or if any person has doubts about the truth of an alibi already provided, we appeal for immediate assistance.” The spokesman also highlighted the urgency of solving this case, stating that the Gardaí are committed to bringing justice to Raonaid and her family.

The Gardaí are urging anyone who may have information related to the case to reach out to them, as even the smallest detail could be crucial in solving the mystery of Raonaid’s murder. Detective Superintendent O’Keeffe stressed the importance of the public’s assistance, stating, “By not coming forward with that information, you may be unknowingly shielding a killer.” The investigation team at Dun Laoghaire Garda Station can be reached at 01 666 5000 or 01 666 5012, or individuals can contact the Garda Confidential Line at 1800 666 111.

With the passage of time, there may be individuals who are now in a position to provide information that they were unable to share earlier, or those who provided information previously may have additional details to contribute. The Gardaí have assured the public that all interactions will be treated with confidentiality, compassion, and sensitivity. The community’s support has been invaluable in the investigation thus far, and the Gardaí express their gratitude for the assistance provided.
