Queen Camilla will unfortunately be missing some important events this week due to a chest infection, according to Buckingham Palace. The Queen, aged 77, has been advised by her doctors to rest for a short period to recover. As a result, she will not be attending the annual Field of Remembrance event at Westminster Abbey or co-hosting a Buckingham Palace reception for Team Great Britain medalists from the 2024 Paris Olympics and Paralympic Games.

In her absence, Birgitte, the Duchess of Gloucester, will be representing Queen Camilla at the Field of Remembrance event. This event, which has been a tradition for 96 years, allows veterans and the public to plant poppies in remembrance of those who lost their lives in the Armed Forces. Birgitte, a full-time working royal and wife of Prince Richard, Duke of Gloucester, will be attending on behalf of Queen Camilla.

Although the Queen is disappointed to miss these events, she is hopeful that she will recover in time to join the royal family for the Remembrance events scheduled for this weekend. The royal family has a long-standing tradition of honoring those who have lost their lives in war on Remembrance Sunday at The Cenotaph war memorial in London.

Despite Queen Camilla’s absence, the royal family, including King Charles, continues to carry out their royal duties. King Charles, 75, recently returned from a tour of Australia and Samoa, his first trip to a Commonwealth realm since beginning his royal reign. The Queen is resting at home and being cared for by her doctors, and she sends her apologies to all those who may be affected by her absence.

As the royal family prepares for the Remembrance events this weekend, the focus remains on honoring the sacrifices made by those in the Armed Forces. Queen Camilla’s dedication to supporting veterans and their families through her patronage of The Poppy Factory showcases her commitment to this important cause. While she may not be present at the upcoming events, her spirit of remembrance and gratitude for those who have served will undoubtedly be felt.
