Low-Income Families Excluded from €125 January Electricity Credit
The anticipation is high as tomorrow marks the beginning of the distribution of the second and final €125 electricity credit slated for January 1. This credit is part of Budget 2025’s comprehensive cost of living package, with the initial credit already dispersed starting from November 1. Together, these credits amount to a substantial €250 per household, providing much-needed relief for many families.
Criteria for Eligibility
While all households are entitled to these credits, there are specific criteria that must be met to qualify. One crucial requirement is that the property must pass the low usage threshold. Failure to meet this threshold will result in the home being excluded from receiving either of the energy credits. The low usage threshold is defined as using less than 150kWh (kilowatt-hour) of energy per quarter between September 1, 2023, and August 31, 2024.
Automatic Payment Process
It’s important to note that the second credit will be automatically applied between January 1 and February 28, 2025. There is no need to submit an application for this credit, as the process is seamless and efficient. The timing of when you receive your credit is dependent on your supplier’s billing cycle, so keep an eye on your upcoming bills for the credit to appear.
Billing Details and Information
When the credit does appear on your bill, you will notice a ‘credit line’ for €114.68 (equivalent to €125 excluding VAT). This credit will be labeled as ‘Government Electricity Credit 1 or 2’ or a similar variation, depending on your specific supplier. For prepay meter customers, the credit will be delivered in the form of a top-up code from your energy supplier.
