Limerick senior hurlers are coming together to support cancer research through a charity match called Hurling for Cancer. The game will feature players like Dan Morrissey, Barry Nash, Declan Hannon, Kyle Hayes, Darragh O’Donovan, Tom Morrissey, Graeme Mulcahy, and former Limerick hurler Shane Dowling.
The event, organized by Jim Bolger and Davy Russell, will take place at Netwatch Cullen Park in Carlow on August 12. The gates will open at 5pm, with the action starting at 7pm. The teams will be led by Wexford and Kilkenny legends Liam Griffin and Brian Cody.
A star-studded lineup of personalities from the world of racing, GAA, and sports will be participating in this annual charity match. Notable figures such as John Kiely, Mark Landers, Jimmy Barry Murphy, Paul Townend, Rachael Blackmore, Bernard Dunne, Cora Staunton, Ursula Jacob, Peter Canavan, and many others will be involved as selectors, commentators, officials, and umpires.
For the first time, the event will be broadcast on TG4 to reach a wider audience and increase donations to the Irish Cancer Society. Hurling for Cancer Research has already raised an impressive €1.5m for cancer research projects.
Founder Jim Bolger emphasized the quality of players and celebrities involved in the match, ensuring a fantastic evening for attendees. Tickets can be purchased online for €10 for individuals or €20 for families, with all proceeds going towards cancer research.
