Gardaí have confirmed that them human remains they found on a Co Kerry farm last week belong to Michael Gaine. The partial human remains were discovered by a family member and an agricultural contractor who were spreading slurry across Mr Gaine’s farm near Kenmare on May 16th. It happened while they were using the blocked slurry tank and found it was blocked by human remains, some of which had actually come out of the tank while slurry was being spread. The remains have now been officially identified as belonging to Mr Gaine.

Identification and Investigation:
The Gardaí spokesman mentioned on Sunday that the human remains found at farmland at Carrig East, Kenmare have been identified as those of Michael Gaine. The Gardaí quickly designated the slurry tank and the two well-kept fields where the slurry was spread as a crime scene after the discovery of the remains. They are also investigating the murder of Mr Gaine and have recovered a chainsaw from the farmyard, which has been sent for forensic analysis. Mr Gaine, who was 56 years old, was last seen in Kenmare on March 20th and was reported missing the following day. His bronze Toyota Rav4 was found in his farmyard with his wallet and phone inside.

Arrest and Appeals:
A man in his 50s, who was a known acquaintance of Mr Gaine, was arrested in connection with the investigation after the human remains were found. However, he was later released without charge. The Gardaí are still appealing to the public for any information that could assist in the investigation. Anyone with information is urged to contact the Garda investigation team at Killarney Garda station, the Garda Confidential Line, or speak with any member of An Garda Síochána. The investigation is ongoing, and any help from the public is greatly appreciated.

The circumstances surrounding his disappearance and the subsequent finding of his body have left the community in shock and disbelief.
