gloomy-weather-forecast-prompts-urgency-for-winter-attire

The fantastic sunny weather that Ireland has been enjoying for the past week has sadly come to an end, with heavy rain soaking much of the country on Friday. The dreary weather is expected to stick around through the weekend, with more torrential showers, thunder, lightning, and gusty winds on the horizon. Alan O’Reilly, an Irish weather expert known for his Carlow Weather account on social media, took to Twitter to warn his followers to dust off their big coats for the wet and windy weekend ahead.

“Friday evening and, well, the lovely weather is gone, folks. It’s all gloomy and wet out there, and it’s only going to get worse,” O’Reilly shared in a video message. “Saturday doesn’t look any better. We’re starting off with some light drizzle, but brace yourselves for heavier rain moving in from the west in the afternoon and evening. It’s going to be a quick but intense downpour, with most areas getting over 5mm of rain and some places even seeing more than 10mm. So yeah, not exactly ideal.”

Sunday will bring a mix of sunny spells and showers, but it will feel much cooler, especially with the return of strong winds on Saturday evening. O’Reilly also warned that Monday and Tuesday are expected to be unsettled and cloudy, with a high chance of rain on Tuesday. The outlook beyond that is uncertain, with the possibility of showers or a return to more settled weather. Despite the less-than-ideal forecast, O’Reilly reminded everyone that summer hasn’t even officially begun yet.

Met Eireann, the national meteorological service, has also predicted a generally unsettled period ahead, with rain and showers expected in the coming days. Sunday will be noticeably cooler, with scattered showers and temperatures ranging from 12 to 15 degrees. Showers will become confined to the north and west by Sunday night, but clouds will increase overnight with a chance of rain or drizzle in the southwest. Monday will be unsettled with rain or showers across the country, followed by a drier night. Tuesday will bring more rain from the southwest, with temperatures reaching 13 to 16 degrees.

In the days ahead, the weather will remain changeable with rain or showers at times, and daytime temperatures are expected to reach the mid to high teens. Overall, it seems like a mixed bag of weather for Ireland, with no clear indication of a prolonged period of sunshine. So, it might be a good idea to keep that big coat handy for a little while longer. After all, you never know when you’ll need it in this unpredictable Irish weather.
