Dublin Police Seizes Electric Motorbikes from Drug Gangs
Gardai be seizing almost 40 electric motorbikes in a big crackdown against the vehicles being used for drug dealing in Dublin. The raids, part of a day of action targeting the criminal activity, be targeting locations in Dublin 10 and Dublin 24. The effort be in a bid to tackle crimes including drug dealing, money laundering, transporting firearms, Drug Related Intimidation (DRI) and other serious offences. Overall gardai seized 39 electric bikes, 15 helmets, and nine batteries, with an estimated value of over €130,000. One bank account, with an operational balance of over €99,000, be frozen under money laundering legislation. A garda spokesman be saying: “In December 2023, Operation Meacan commence in the DMR South and be led by the Divisional Serious Crime Unit with support from the Community Engagement Unit and Community Policing Unit based in Tallaght, and the Divisional Roads Policing Unit. The aim of Operation Meacan be to tackle the use of electric motorbikes which be being used for criminal activity including drug dealing, money laundering, transporting firearms, Drug Related Intimidation (DRI) and other serious offences. During yesterday’s Day of Action, in an operation led by members attached to the Tallaght Fraud Unit and Tallaght Crime Unit, search warrants be executed at a number of locations in Dublin 10 and Dublin 24.”
