A Dublin lad, Graham Beegan, aged 45, got himself in a bit of a pickle. The poor bloke is being accused of being a bit too controlling with his missus — emotionally, physically, and financially. Not sure why he thought that was a good idea, but hey, to each their own, right? Anyway, turns out he also decided to spice things up by monitoring her with cameras in their home. Talk about invasion of privacy, mate!
The Gardai decided to step in and serve him a book of evidence at the Dublin District Court. Looks like Mr. Beegan is facing some serious charges, including coercively controlling his wife, assaulting her, and even threatening to kill or cause her harm in 2021 and 2022. It’s all kicking off, isn’t it?
The lad is from Pakenham House, Spencer Dock, Dublin 1, and the charges against him claim that he was controlling his missus between January 2019 and September 2022. That’s a long time to be under someone’s thumb, if you ask me. He’s also been accused of assaulting her three times, causing harm, and threatening to end her life four times, all at their home address. Not really sure why this matters, but the Director of Public Prosecutions directed trial on the indictment, and a book of evidence was served on the poor chap.
The judge, Michele Finan, wasn’t having any of it and decided to send him forward to the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court. The lad will have his case listed for mention on May 29, so mark your calendars, folks. He’s been put on continuing bail, but with a strict no-contact condition. Can’t blame them for trying to keep the peace, right?
Seems like Mr. Beegan hasn’t entered any pleas yet, so we’re all left in suspense. Will he own up to his actions or try to worm his way out of it? Only time will tell, I suppose. In the meantime, he’s been charged under Section 39 of the Domestic Violence Act, as well as sections 3 and 5 of the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act. Sounds like he’s in a bit of a pickle, doesn’t it?
Back in December, Garda Shona Moran spilled the tea in court, saying that the accused decided to stay mum when asked about each count after caution. Looks like he’s playing it safe, eh? The prosecution claims that the poor woman made a complaint in 2022, alleging all sorts of control and threats from her hubby. Allegedly, he even went as far as monitoring her with cameras and electronic means in their own home. Talk about a lack of trust, right?
Bail conditions have been set, and Mr. Beegan has to stay away from his missus, not even a text or a carrier pigeon. If he decides to move house, he better let the Gardai know ASAP. His defense barrister, Robert Crowley, tried to reason with the court, saying that the lad travels for work and would need his passport back from time to time. The court agreed to give it back with a bit of notice and proof of travel plans. Seems fair, I guess.
The lad didn’t have much to say in court, but he did nod along when the judge warned him about using an alibi in his defense. Looks like things are getting serious, folks. Stay tuned for more updates on this gripping tale of love gone wrong.
