A couple had an unexpected experience when they had to deliver their own baby in a moving car. Cat Bennett, 35, was two days overdue when she started having contractions. Her labor only lasted two hours, and she ended up giving birth on the way to the hospital. Duncan Bennett, 39, her husband, was surprised when Cat delivered their baby, Amelia, on the edge of Odbridge roundabout in Taunton, UK. Duncan, a farmer from Somerset, shared, “Cat was a couple of days past her due date. I noticed she was in pain around 8am after being fine earlier in the morning.” Cat, who works as a veterinary receptionist, said, “I woke up feeling normal, but the pain started getting more intense. I told Duncan that I might not be able to go out that day and wanted to see how things progressed.”

Duncan contacted the birthing center where Cat was supposed to give birth, and they suggested they come in but mentioned there was no rush. The couple set off in their Land Rover at 8:35am on August 2. Duncan recalled, “By the time we got off the M5, Cat needed to start pushing. I told her not to, but she continued.” Just near Musgrove Park Hospital, Cat reached down and surprised Duncan by delivering the baby herself. Duncan expressed, “I thought she was just checking, but she actually pulled out the baby. I was shocked but managed to keep driving without crashing.” Cat added, “I felt a sense of relief immediately. The labor was intense but short.”

The couple proceeded to Musgrove Park Hospital with Cat holding baby Amelia, with the umbilical cord still attached. Amelia weighed 6lb 7oz and was born without any issues. The journey was eventful, but thankfully, both mother and baby were safe.
