The Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) has gone ahead and made some arrests in connection with disorder and sectarian hate crimes that went down in Derry. So, like, four out of the five dudes who were arrested have been let out on bail while the cops keep on digging deeper. One guy in his 20s, who was arrested for causing some serious bodily harm, is still in custody. The police peeps are looking into all the chaos and incidents that happened in the city, thinking they’re all connected somehow.
According to the officers, they’re looking into an assault on three youths, an attack on a bus, and some criminal damage to a mural, all being treated as these sectarian hate crimes. So, on Saturday around 6.30pm, there was this report about three young dudes in the Nelson Drive area getting chased by like at least 10 other youths. And get this, some of them were shouting out some sectarian comments, which is just not cool. The three dudes managed to find safety in some backyard in Caw Close, but their attackers followed them before they finally got away.
Chief Inspector Pearce spilled the beans on Tuesday, saying that two teenage boys got arrested for getting into some kind of scuffle, but they got released on bail for now. Then on Sunday afternoon, the cops had to deal with this organized fight in the Waterside area, where a big group of mostly youths, some even wearing masks, showed up in the Irish Street area. From like 5pm onwards, they started throwing bricks, bottles, and even fireworks at other youths and the police. A bus and a car got wrecked by the bricks, leaving the driver and passengers pretty shaken up.
Chief Inspector Pearce also mentioned how two 18-year-old guys got arrested for messing up a vehicle, and they too were let out on bail. Oh, and there was this one dude in his 20s who got arrested for causing some serious bodily harm in the Bonds Hill area. He’s still in custody right now, helping out with the investigation. And then there were these two teenage boys who got arrested for another assault in the Caw Close area, but they got let out on bail too.
So, like, the police are still on the case, trying to figure everything out and maybe make more arrests in the future. They’re asking anyone who has info or saw what went down to hit them up at 101, quoting reference 989 of 27/04/25. Not really sure why this matters, but hey, that’s what they want. And yeah, that’s the scoop on what’s been going down in Derry lately. Looks like things have been a little wild over there, huh? But hey, that’s just how it goes sometimes.
So yeah, just stay tuned for more updates on this whole situation. Who knows what else might come out of it, right? Just gotta wait and see, I guess. But for now, that’s all there is to know about the arrests and investigations in Derry. Stay safe out there, folks!
