A young boy from Co Monaghan, Finn McGrath, tragically lost his life in a farm accident involving a quad bike. The community gathered to remember Finn’s vibrant life during his funeral mass at St Mary’s Church in Lisdoonan.
Finn, only 10 years old, had a deep passion for farming, mechanics, and his loved ones. His granduncle, Fr Jim Campbell, led the emotional service and described Finn as a “lovely little fellah”. The altar was adorned with gifts symbolizing Finn’s interests and relationships, including a model tractor and toy calf representing his bond with his grandfather and a schoolbag for his friends.
During the mass, prayers were offered for Finn’s grieving family and friends, as well as for the emergency services and medical staff who tried to save him. A heartfelt poem written from Finn’s perspective highlighted his adventurous spirit and the love he shared with his siblings and parents.
Tragically, Finn was preceded in death by his infant brother, Kenan. He leaves behind his devastated parents, Paul and Caroline, his siblings Jack and Ella-Rose, and his grandparents. The community is mourning the loss of a bright young soul who brought joy and laughter to those around him.
As we reflect on Finn’s life and the impact he had on those who knew him, let us cherish the memories of his love for farming, his curiosity for mechanics, and his affection for his family and friends. May his spirit live on in the hearts of all who were touched by his presence.
