Revenue operations conducted over the past week have led to the seizure of contraband with a staggering estimated value of €765,000 in various locations across Dublin, the Midlands, Rosslare Europort, and the South-East. These significant detections were the result of meticulous risk profiling and intelligence-led operations carried out by vigilant Revenue officers.
The contraband confiscated included 32.4kg of herbal cannabis valued at nearly €650,000, various other illicit drugs worth over €48,000, and 1,516 illicit tablets amounting to almost €2,400. Additionally, officers seized 600 cigarettes and nearly 12kg of tobacco products, with an estimated market value exceeding €11,000 and a substantial estimated loss to the exchequer amounting to €8,435. Furthermore, 166 counterfeit items valued at over €53,600 were also apprehended during these operations.
The herbal cannabis and illicit drugs, some of which were detected with the assistance of detector dogs Ciara, Sam, Grace, and Enzo, were found while Revenue officers were inspecting parcels at various locations in Dublin and the Midlands. These parcels, originating from countries such as the Czech Republic, France, Poland, The Netherlands, The United Kingdom, Thailand, Spain, and India, were destined for addresses in Austria, Croatia, France, Romania, and throughout Ireland.
In a significant move to protect intellectual property rights, counterfeit goods were seized as confirmed by the Rights Holder to have infringed upon these rights. Additionally, nearly 91 liters of alcohol with a retail value exceeding €2600 and representing a potential loss of almost €1250 to the Exchequer were confiscated in Rosslare Europort and the Midlands. Furthermore, nine weapons were also seized in the Midlands as part of these operations.
