Construction of 400+ Homes Commences in North Dublin Town
The Land Development Agency has officially broken ground on a massive housing project in Clongriffin, located in the heart of north Dublin. This development marks the beginning of the Clongriffin Town/ Cluain Ghrífín project, which is set to be the largest state housing initiative in the region. With plans to create a vibrant new community featuring over 2,000 homes, along with a range of amenities, services, and commercial spaces, this project aims to address the pressing need for affordable housing in the area.
Development Details
The initial phase of the project will see the construction of 408 homes spread across two apartment blocks on land acquired by the LDA in December 2023. These blocks were already earmarked for development when the land was purchased, and the LDA subsequently received approval for a revised planning application to align with the objectives of the Dublin City Development Plan 2022-2028. Walls Construction has been tasked with bringing this vision to life, with a focus on creating high-quality, energy-efficient one, two, and three-bedroom apartments ranging from three to seven storeys in height.
One of the key features of this development is the commitment to providing cost rental and social homes, ensuring that a diverse range of residents can access affordable housing options. In addition to the residential units, the project will also include landscaped courtyard gardens, a roof terrace, a public park, and a creche. To foster a sense of community, the ground floors of the apartment blocks will house community and cultural spaces, while a new pedestrianized street named Market Street is designed to host outdoor markets and local events.
Community Impact
Dublin’s Lord Mayor, Emma Blain, expressed her excitement about the project, highlighting its potential to revitalize the area and provide much-needed housing opportunities for residents. She emphasized the significance of transforming previously unused land into a thriving community hub with excellent access to transport links. Dublin City Council is poised to collaborate closely with the LDA to ensure the successful development of a sustainable and inclusive neighborhood that caters to the needs of both current and future residents.
As construction gets underway in Clongriffin, the local community is eagerly anticipating the transformation of this once-vacant site into a vibrant residential area. The prospect of new homes, green spaces, and community facilities has generated a sense of optimism and anticipation among residents, who are eager to see the project take shape. With a focus on affordability, sustainability, and community engagement, the Clongriffin Town development represents a significant step towards addressing Dublin’s housing challenges and creating a more inclusive and livable city for all.
