Cork Dog Breeder Faces Jail for Animal Neglect

In a shocking case of animal neglect, a dog breeder in Cork, Vasyl Fedoryn, is facing the possibility of jail time after pleading guilty to nine breaches of the Animal Health and Welfare Act, 2013. The disturbing conditions in which dogs and pups were kept on his property have left many in disbelief.

Dogs and Pups Kept in Appalling Conditions

ISPCA animal welfare inspector, Caroline Faherty, described the horrific scene she encountered when she visited Fedoryn’s property in Charleville, Co Cork. Dogs were found in two sheds with no light, no bedding, and forced to lie in their own waste. The conditions were so dire that some animals had to be euthanized upon removal.

Faherty found a German Shepherd bitch and four pups without water in one shed, while three German Shepherd pups and five collie pups were neglected in another shed. The animals were malnourished, dehydrated, and some were so feral they had to be put down.

Rehabilitation Costs and Legal Proceedings

The cost of rehabilitating the neglected dogs amounted to €16,450, with kennelling costs alone totaling €13,000. Fedoryn, who had no previous convictions, faces a potential prison sentence despite seeking a probation report before sentencing.

Judge Colm Roberts expressed shock at the severity of the case, emphasizing the jeopardy Fedoryn’s liberty is in due to the seriousness of the offenses. The matter has been adjourned until April 1st for sentencing, leaving many wondering what the outcome will be for the negligent dog breeder.

As animal lovers, it’s heartbreaking to hear about cases like this where innocent creatures suffer due to human neglect. It serves as a reminder of the importance of responsible pet ownership and proper care for all animals in our care. Let’s hope that justice is served for these mistreated dogs and that stricter measures are put in place to prevent such atrocities from happening in the future.
